After second season success, the Twisted Metal TV show is back with the legendary Mark Hamill in a familiar role

Mark Hamill has been added to the cast of Peacock and Sony Pictures Television’s Twisted Metal adaptation. He is slated to appear in a recurring capacity during the show’s third season.

Hamill—best known for bringing Luke Skywalker to life in the Star Wars franchise, along with a long record of voice work, including his widely praised portrayal of Batman’s Joker across multiple animations and video games—will take on the role of Pope Charlie Kane in the upcoming run of Twisted Metal. Those familiar with the games will recognize that Charlie Kane is the father of Sweet Tooth, the clown-themed assassin from Twisted Metal with a flaming head. While Sweet Tooth—also referred to as Needles Kane—works from an ice cream truck, Charlie Kane is associated with the Yellow Jacket, which is often described as a taxi-like vehicle.

As reported by Deadline, the series’ version of Charlie Kane will serve as the head (or pope) of a faction known as The Eastern Sovereignty. “Having Mark Hamill join us in this universe is extraordinary,” said Anthony Mackie, who plays the lead John Doe and also functions as an executive producer. “He’s someone I’ve respected for a long while—a true icon who has inspired countless actors. It’s an immense privilege to now consider him a castmate, and we are eager to see what he contributes to the world of Twisted Metal.”

Alongside Mackie, the central cast of Twisted Metal includes Joe Seanoa as Sweet Tooth (though the character’s voice is performed by Will Arnett), Stephanie Beatriz as Quiet, and Anthony Carrigan as Calypso. The show was renewed for a third season in November, after its second season reached 993 million minutes viewed on Peacock. When the renewal was announced, Peacock said the series had become its “second highest-reaching original returning scripted season”.

For its debut, Twisted Metal earned a nomination for Best Adaptation at the 2023 Game Awards, though the award ultimately went to HBO’s The Last of Us television adaptation.
