Not long ago, Behaviour Interactive shared a standout showcase for Dead by Daylight, pointing to major visual upgrades and fresh additions. The release of Friday the 13th’s icon, Jason Voorhees, has boosted the asymmetrical online horror title even further, pushing its Steam momentum to impressive new levels.
A quick look at the all-time concurrent player numbers on SteamDB suggests a clear uptick that began in April. Most recently, the game reached a high of 125,820 players online at peak, just 20 hours ago. With summer break nearing and more updates expected, it will be interesting to see whether these figures climb again.
As a reminder, these figures reflect the performance of the decade-old title specifically on Steam. On PC, you can also play it through the Epic Games Store and Microsoft apps. Beyond that, it’s available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, along with Nintendo Switch. Interestingly, there’s been no announcement yet for a native Switch 2 release. Players also benefit from cross-platform functionality that’s been available for years.
In Dead by Daylight, players can either try to flee from a supernatural killer who intends to sacrifice them in order to satisfy the Entity—once described as “evil in its purest form”—or they can instead step into the killer’s role. This blend of co-op horror and competitive player-versus-player play has stayed compelling for years, especially as more killers and well-known horror icons have joined the grim roster.
For the moment, Behaviour Interactive is focused on improving and breathing new life into Dead by Daylight rather than producing a sequel. Considering how player numbers have gone up instead of slipping over time, that approach looks like a smart call. Meanwhile, a live-action Dead by Daylight movie is also in the works, which should draw even more newcomers.
