Sony has shared a blog post detailing which PlayStation 5 capabilities will be supported for Grand Theft Auto 6, while claiming the title will be able to “perform optimally” on PS5.
“Because of the strong partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will provide the best experience on PS5 by taking advantage of the console’s immersive features, delivering an intensely captivating single-player adventure when it launches on November 19,” the post reports.
The DualSense wireless controllers are said to be “responding to your actions,” with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that offer “dynamic resistance.” The entry also highlights the controller’s built-in speaker, claiming it brings “an extra layer to significant moments and interactions.” Meanwhile, the PS5’s SSD is expected to deliver “near-instantaneous load times” as well.
That said, there’s no clear confirmation that GTA 6 runs better on PS5 in terms of raw performance. Instead, the messaging seems designed to encourage many players to view PS5 as the top choice for GTA 6 at launch—especially since the game is expected to reach a massive audience on the platform. Sony, in turn, appears to be counting on GTA 6 to act as both a hardware and software draw.
Curiously, the PS5 Pro isn’t brought up. The only time it appears is in the PlayStation Store listing for GTA 6, where it’s labeled “PS5 Pro Enhanced,” though the listing doesn’t explain what that enhancement actually includes. Otherwise, every technical feature mentioned applies to the standard PS5, and all GTA 6 footage released so far has also been captured on a standard PS5. This gap is notable, and we can only assume that GTA 6 may benefit from the PS5 Pro—though Sony was contacted for additional details.
So, will PS5 end up as the primary place to play GTA 6? Sony is currently positioned well within the console space. At the moment, Xbox is dealing with major hurdles, including underwhelming hardware sales and reported layoffs across numerous studios. On top of that, the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 still hasn’t arrived, even though the original Switch continues to perform strongly and Take-Two’s CEO has said the company intends to keep supporting the system going forward.
That leaves the PC as another option. It’s a strong choice for gaming, and it’s hard to doubt that Grand Theft Auto 6 will succeed there when—and if—it launches. For Sony, which appears to be stepping back from the PC space based on its yearly business report, it makes sense that the company is putting more effort into drawing GTA 6 fans toward the best console experience.
