Diablo 4’s next season has been fully detailed and dated, and there’s a free Warlock trial on the way and an Overwatch collab coming

The next Diablo 4 season is right around the corner, and Blizzard shared the full rundown of the Season of Death Awakening during a livestream yesterday.

Because the season’s gameplay changes were put through testing earlier this month, we’ve already had a good look at its most important additions. Chief among them is the ability to convert any Unique item into a Mythic—the top tier currently available.

When the Season of Death Awakening begins on 30th June, this feature—now known as ‘Mythic Uniques 3.0’—will open up for every player alongside the rest of the season’s fresh lineup. That lineup includes the season journey, a reward track with 120 objectives spread across nine ranks; the new Ruptures mini-event, which shows up across the world as portals that release enemies; a new quest that takes you to uncover the origins of a Death Cult; and the newly added Solo Self Found Mode, which blocks you from making parties or trading with other players.

The Season of Death Awakening will go live at the same time as patch 3.1.0, and you’ll be able to pre-download it starting tomorrow, 25th June at 6pm BST (10am PT, 1pm ET, 7pm CEST) through BattleNet, PlayStation, and Xbox—though it’s strangely not listed on Steam.

To mark the season’s arrival, Blizzard is also offering a free trial for the Warlock class, one of the two new classes introduced in the Lord of Hatred expansion earlier this year. Since Blizzard previously ran a Paladin trial, having the Warlock follow along feels like the sensible move.

The Warlock trial begins with the new season on 30th June and runs for one week, ending on 7th July. It lets anyone who doesn’t already own Lord of Hatred play as the Warlock at no cost, with the ability to progress the class up to level 30.

As before, players on every platform except Steam can join the trial during its window, and any progress you earn will carry over. That means if you decide to buy Lord of Hatred later, you can pick up right where you stopped.

I tried out the Warlock, and it comes across as the most complex class in Diablo 4—so a trial is especially useful. It blends elements of the Necromancer and Sorcerer, letting you harness the forces of hell to summon demons that fight for you. You can also tailor it in different ways to weave demonic power directly into your attacks.

And if you still need another reason to jump back in, Overwatch is teaming up with Diablo 4, offering a complimentary Reliquary (battle pass) filled with various cosmetics—plus the first dye you can earn in Diablo 4. When you defeat Elite and Champion monsters, they’ll drop the Eye of the Overwatch currency, which you can use to unlock items within the Overwatch Reliquary.

Sadly, none of these rewards include character skins. Those will be limited to the in-game store, and they’re likely to cost a small fortune—at least, that’s what past collaboration events suggest. The skins draw inspiration from Mercy, Reinhardt, Kiriko, Roadhog, Reaper, Genji, and more.
