Where’s our Black Myth: Wukong review?

Editor’s note: Our full review of Black Myth: Wukong is now live!

Hello! You might be seeing multiple reviews for Black Myth: Wukong going up around this same time, and we wanted to let you know where to find ours.

In short: we need a little more time with this title. It’s a fairly large game, and the time we’ve been able to spend with it so far has been limited—so we haven’t progressed enough to publish a truly detailed review.

A few extra points are also worth mentioning. For one, there are tight embargo rules on what we were allowed to cover in an early report for this game—something that appears to be fairly common these days. We’ve also been informed that there won’t be a PlayStation 5 code available until on or after the launch date. That doesn’t automatically signal anything major; it’s not unusual for codes for one platform to arrive before another, but it does add one more small reason for us to hold off for a bit longer.

It’s also important to underline the standard critical caveats: we’re not entitled to early access to a game—review codes are a privilege, not a right—and publishers aren’t required to support our review process. Still, considering how short the window was for the PC code we received, the fact that we currently have no console code to assess, the game’s overall length, and the somewhat limiting instructions on what we could discuss, taking more time to get it right is the sensible choice.

You can expect our review to appear sometime early next week, with the game launching on Tuesday, August 20th. Until then, we’ve been lucky enough to share impressions from the opening stretch of the game. Ed Nightingale was struck by Black Myth: Wukong’s combat during his first hands-on session, and based on an extended play earlier this summer, he pointed out that while Wukong shines as a boss-rush experience, it may not entirely align with the Soulslike label. Stay tuned for further updates from us soon, and thank you for your patience!
