Spyro: A Realm Beyond exists only because of its “loud and consistent” community of fans

Spyro: A Realm Beyond exists because of “passionate and dedicated” supporters.

Associate creative director Lou Studdert and Toys for Bob studio leader Paul Yan shared this perspective with GamesRadar+, explaining that the team has “always wished to revisit the Spyro universe, to advance that character, and the timing felt right, so we left it up to fate.”

“To be honest, Spyro means a lot to us here,” Studdert said, discussing the studio’s past work on Spyro Reignited Trilogy and the Skylanders franchise.

“We’ve long connected with the character’s underdog story—taking on problems that seem impossible to overcome. We recognize some of ourselves in that, and in the end, it felt like the only sensible move.”

When asked how the community played a role in pushing the studio toward a new entry, Yan pointed out: “Every year, at every gaming event, we keep hearing the fans asking, ‘When will there be a new Spyro game?’—and that was even before we had introduced our pitch.”

“Once we approached Xbox with our plan, we told them, ‘There’s a lively community out there—people are fired up and they understand exactly what they want. You’re the ones who can build the game; what more do you need? Let’s start moving the project forward.’

Yan added: “We’re big fans of Spyro, we truly value Banjo, and we appreciate all kinds of titles like these. We’ve been committed to this from the beginning. It’s not a departure for us—we want to bring this style of experience into the wider world of gaming.”

“We think the industry deserves experiences like this, and we’re ready to make them.”

Spyro: A Realm Beyond is slated to arrive in spring 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Spyro’s original voice actor, Tom Kenny, will return to reprise the role. It will also mark the first original Spyro game in nearly two decades.
