Welcome to S Tier, where you’ll find the strongest pets in Grow a Garden 2! The Golden Dragonfly and the Unicorn both earn their place because they introduce mutations to your plants that raise their selling value. Meanwhile, the Raccoon grabs fruit from other players’ gardens after dark, so you don’t have to get involved in that sort of activity yourself. Instead, you can stay home and focus on guarding your own garden. (That said, if you do feel like stealing too, the Raccoon will also raise your theft limit.)
When it comes to protecting your garden, the Ice Serpent and the Black Dragon are currently the top defenders available. Both can quickly take care of anyone bold enough to try breaking into your little plant haven, and they’re absolutely worth using if you manage to get them. Just be aware that obtaining them takes a lot of work—especially the Ice Serpent, since you’ll need to belong to a Guild and reach a specific Guild Score to unlock it.
Because these pets are so hard to come by, collecting every one of them can be tough. For that reason, I recommend prioritizing the Raccoon and Unicorn first. Both help you build up Sheckles—one by stealing, and the other by triggering the Rainbow mutation—so you can reach the best seeds sooner.

I’ll admit it—the Deer nearly made it into S Tier, mainly because it’s the only pet that provides a growth speed boost right at the start of Grow a Garden 2. Still, I chose to keep it in A Tier, since it’s likely other pets will eventually outperform it. Even so, it’s a good idea to get a Deer for your garden before that 10% growth boost disappears. Faster plant growth means more fruits, which translates into quicker Sheckles!
As for the Bee, it’s a solid defender for your plants and makes your garden a pain to raid. Other players probably won’t stick around to try stealing your rare fruits if they can’t easily control their character. And if they do continue anyway, the confusion caused by reversed controls should help you land hits with your shovel.

These pets fall under B Tier because, although their abilities are useful, they’re not the kind of advantages you’ll constantly rely on. In fact, for two of the pets, you can actually perform their functions yourself.
The Monkey’s fruit-collecting feature can be replaced by growing Bamboo so you can climb, or by buying ladders. The Owl’s main trick—expanding night vision distance—only works at night, so you’ll likely only want it if you’re planning to steal from a garden far from your own. Honestly, you probably won’t need to use its second ability (hooting when a rare pet appears) either, since the pet refresh timer is long enough that regular checks should help you avoid missing a rare spawn. At first glance, the Robin seems like the most appealing pick, but there’s no guarantee it will drop (poop) a seed after eating fruit. There’s also a smaller chance of getting (pooping) rarer seeds, which could end up lowering your profits instead.
If I had to pick one pet from this group, I’d go with the Monkey, since its fruit-collecting ability…
you can save yourself some valuable time. The Robin may offer access to more unusual seeds, but I’d rather stick with dependable outcomes than rely on chance.
C Tier Pets

At the very bottom of the tier list, you’ll see the Frog and the Bunny. They’re placed here because the benefits they bring are simply passive enhancements: Bunny boosts your walking speed by +5, and the Frog raises your jump height by +5. Between the two, I recommend choosing the Frog, since the extra jump height can help you reach fruits that grow higher up. That said, over the long run, you’ll probably swap them out for stronger alternatives. For that reason, it’s usually best to hold onto your Sheckles for a pet that’s more worthwhile.
