Eventually, pretty much everything finds its way into Fortnite, and that includes the web-based virtual pet experience Neopets. Epic Games revealed on Tuesday that Aisha—one of the most well-known virtual pets from Neopets—will arrive in Fortnite next month. Because Aisha already has a strong fanbase, she may show up as one of Fortnite‘s small Sidekicks.
Epic has rolled out scores of Sidekicks for Fortnite since the system launched in November. Today’s options run the gamut from dogs, cats, and birds to dragons, plus well-known licensed picks such as SpongeBob SquarePants, the Toy Story Alien, Adventure Time‘s Peppermint Butler, Rick & Morty‘s Snowball, and Itchy from The Simpsons.
How exactly Neopets will bring Aisha into the game still hasn’t been spelled out, but many Millennials who fondly remember tending to virtual pets on their parents’ computers are probably planning to save up some V-Bucks just in case. (And if they’re buying her, the price is likely not much more than one avocado toast.)
Neopets first launched in 1999, created by Adam and Donna Powell. The virtual pet site quickly attracted attention and won over younger audiences. At its height, Neopets served as an early online hangout for kids to build communities and take part in a broader story world featuring lovable creatures and faeries.
Across the last 27 years, responsibility for Neopets has changed hands several times, and starting in 2023, it has been owned by World of Neopia. The company has also brought back a slate of classic Neopets Flash games as part of a brand comeback that includes a Pokémon-inspired trading card game. Next up, that revival is set to move into Fortnite, and it’s anyone’s guess what other worlds might follow if Epic’s audience is willing to spend the appropriate amount of V-Bucks.
Neopets’ Aisha lands in Fortnite on July 2.
