Witchspire is acooperative survival crafting game that puts you and your teammates in the role of witches at Thornveil Academy. From there, you’ll travel through a huge world together on broomsticks—taming creatures and brewing all kinds of potions along the way. Still, you may be wondering how cooperative sessions actually work, and what you can take part in once you’re playing with others online.
In the guide below, I explain everything you need to know about cooperative play in Witchspire, including how to get co-op started and what’s allowed versus what isn’t.

How to play with friends in Witchspire
To start with, Witchspire is, at the time of writing, only available on Steam. That means any co-op invites are handled through the Steam platform rather than being sent directly from within Witchspire itself. Beyond that, there aren’t many limitations in co-op, so you can do almost anything alongside your friends.
First, let’s clear up how to begin co-op, and then we can look at what you can and can’t do during cooperative play.
To launch co-op with friends in Witchspire, follow these steps:
- Create a world and choose your preferred settings.
- Make a character and complete the tutorial.
- Open your Steam friends list, right-click the friend you want to invite, and select ‘Invite to Game’.
After that, the players you invite will be asked to create their own character and finish the tutorial. Once they’re done, you’ll be able to connect and set off on your adventure together.
Understanding Witchspire co-op
Before jumping in, there are a few key details about co-op in Witchspire that you should know. That said, none of it should seriously interfere with how you play.
To begin with, all story progress is shared across players. For example, if the host of a co-op world has moved forward in the storyline, anyone who joins later will land on the same Main Quest, regardless of their individual level. Because of this, late arrivals may need to do a bit of experience grinding to catch up with the host.
Second, almost any solo activity you can carry out is also available in co-op. Both the host and any additional players can take on quests, use tools like the Workbench and Furnace, and build structures. In my experience, you can even roam completely different sections of the map at the same time without running into problems!
Finally, any Luminary Points you collect or chests you loot are tracked on the server, not on the client. So if one player opens a chest, it will be empty for everyone else who later finds it. With that in mind, you might prefer to loot chests together—or when you return to your base, you can split the items you’ve discovered (or keep them all for yourself; I’m not here to judge).
