As hype builds for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, fans are flocking back to play (the heavily discounted) Remake and Rebirth on Steam

It looks like the impressive Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailer shown at Summer Game Fest was exactly what Square Enix needed. The lengthy showcase, packed with details about a huge open world, major story beats, and revamped combat, and followed by a large media push after the announcement, has noticeably boosted interest in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series.

Earlier this past weekend, both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth picked up attractive discounts on Steam as part of the platform’s Final Fantasy franchise sale. The Remake dropped to £12.24, while Rebirth is priced at £15.99. Square Enix clearly saw this as a smart move: Remake alone pulled more than 10,000 concurrent players on Steam within just the last two days. Rebirth was less dramatic, hitting a high of 6,751 users—but those totals are still strong for two games that launched on Steam in 2022 and 2025, respectively.

Of course, Steam engagement is only one slice of the bigger picture, yet the way players are returning to these games is a strong indicator that the marketing push for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is hitting the mark. The final entry in the trilogy is set to bring the revamped and reworked version of Cloud and his allies’ story to a close as they look to stop Sephiroth’s dark scheme. It’s also worth noting that Remake and Rebirth have recently become available on Switch 2 and Xbox, where—no doubt—many more people are diving into the franchise.

“As the world hangs in the balance, the ultimate confrontation against Sephiroth commences,” the trailer description says.

“A meteor blemishes the sky, colossal planetary guardians wreak havoc worldwide, and the flames of war rage on. Now, Cloud and his allies must confront this turmoil to determine not only the planet’s destiny but also to bring a legendary struggle to its conclusion.

“In the final chapter of the FINAL FANTASY VII remake project, the scope has never been larger, and the stakes have never been greater. Soar through the skies and discover an expansive world, battle alongside a fully assembled team, master tactical and dynamic combat, and gear up for the thrilling climax.

“A vast planet awaits. Everything converges here.”

Before this month’s wave of information—most of it arriving during June’s Summer Games Fest presentation—we were able to pick up a few hints about what’s in store. For example, we learned that the ever-welcoming, slightly annoying lab assistant Chadley will be back in Part 3, potentially as a way to streamline mini-games for Square Enix’s third installment in the reimagined FF7 universe. We also found out that Naoki Hamaguchi has already completed “over 40 full playthroughs,” and he confirmed the game won’t “compromise on graphics whatsoever” even with its shift to a multiplatform release.

The game is set to launch in 2027.
