Overwatch is in a better spot than it was a year earlier, thanks in part to its early-2026, sort-of restart. Beyond that, the game is picking up momentum again today with the arrival of the new hero, Shion, who literally rolls straight into the action for Season 3.
Shion carries two pistols that feel comparable to Tracer, and she plays as a damage-focused character. Still, her distinct look and the spotlight on sleek, showy movement — paired with her ability to ride a motorcycle — set her apart. Even so, it turns out Blizzard’s original thinking for Shion went even further than her final design.
“We had this small style meter UI initially, which would start at D or E and then progress to S, based on how [many abilities] you could link together,” hero producer Kenny Hudson revealed in an interview with PC Gamer. If you immediately thought of the Devil May Cry series and similar stylish action character games, you’re probably close to understanding the direction Blizzard had in mind for Overwatch’s 52nd hero.
In the end, though, the team decided that their grand plan for Shion could put too much pressure on players. “At one stage, we had it set up so she could move at super speed, or she would have double the running speed of other heroes in the game… That was quite extreme, and we believed that the bike [would] provide enough of a challenge,” Hudson explained.
Shion isn’t the only new face coming to Overwatch with Season 3. The Hybrid Map Neon Junction makes its debut as well, alongside the new Anima Strike Meta Event and an updated battle pass. It features “new Ultra Skins with enhanced VFX” and additional content too. On top of that, the refreshed hero shooter is now playable on Switch 2, complete with a full native release.
