Ubisoft co-founder Claude Guillemot dies in plane crash

Ubisoft co-founder Claude Guillemot has died following an aircraft accident.

According to Ouest France, Guillemot was one of two people who were killed in the incident on June 19 in La Baule, Brittany, France. The Cessna 421 twin-engine plane—registered to Guillemot—crashed. He was 69 years old.

The account says Guillemot’s family was informed later the same day. However, official confirmation “has not yet been possible” because the aircraft went down close to the runway.

Aviation sources cited Guillemot as a member of the La Baule flying club, and he was reportedly set to take part in an aviation event over that weekend.

In a message shared with the press, Ubisoft said: “[We] received the news with profound sorrow regarding the passing of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the Group and President of Guillemot Corporation, in an accident.

“Our condolences are with his family and dear ones during this challenging period. No additional statements will be issued at this time.”

Claude Guillemot helped establish Ubisoft in 1986 alongside his brothers Christian, Gérard, Michel, and Yves, who currently serves as Ubisoft’s CEO. Claude also chaired Guillemot Corporation.
