How to get Familiars in Witchspire

Finding new Familiars is a key part of Witchspire, since the creatures and small critters you defeat while adventuring can support you in both combat and crafting. For example, Rockling Familiars are great for speeding up crafting tasks, Chirilis can boost Furnaces, and your first Familiar—along with others you meet during your journey—can make for satisfying allies in battle.

Below, I explain how to get Familiars in Witchspire, along with practical advice for improving your odds of getting them.

How to Acquire Familiars in Witchspire

In Witchspire, your first Familiar appears when you’re asked to pick one of four distinct creatures—Quol, Bril, Locto, or Fien—to travel with you. Even so, you can only run with three Familiars at once, so you’ll probably want to add more useful companions to your lineup soon after.

Every time you defeat a creature in Witchspire, you may be able to gain a fresh Familiar. It doesn’t appear to work for enemy mobs such as Froblins or Al’uunians, though—creatures like Taileafs, Rocklings, Chirilis, and more can all turn into Familiars.

On top of that, after you take down a creature, there’s a chance its spirit will linger—so don’t rush away immediately. Then you can interact with the spirit and choose to Bond with that Familiar, which will put it in your inventory.

When you’re ready to use them, head back to your nearest Hearth and open your inventory by pressing ‘tab’. From there, place Familiars from your inventory into the available slots and you’ll be good to go. Still, remember to strengthen your Familiars after they level up—double-click them while they’re equipped, then choose which Skills or Abilities you want to unlock or improve.

You can only have one Familiar active at a time, though you can equip up to three overall. After that, you can swap between your equipped Familiars whenever you like by pressing ‘C’.

Types and Rarities of Familiars in Witchspire

It’s also worth remembering that Familiars can come with different rarities and types. Types may include the following:

  • Base Variants – your standard Familiar.
  • Shifties – your Familiar gets a color change, similar to Shinies in the Pokémon series.
  • Celestial – these are extremely uncommon, glittering versions of your Familiar.

As for Familiar rarities, Familiars fall into Common, Rare, Epic, or Legendary. These rarities affect what the Familiar can do, providing passive perks such as more health or a stronger attack.

How to Boost Your Chances of Obtaining Familiars in Witchspire

To improve your chances of finding a new Familiar in Witchspire, use Incense. Incense is an item you can find in chests, have drop from bosses, or craft at a Witchcraft Circle. Another option is to equip armor and trinkets that grant passive bonuses, which can raise the likelihood that spirits will linger. You can either craft these items yourself or pick them up as loot.

If you apply some Incense before defeating a creature you want a Familiar from, the Incense increases the odds of spirits lingering for a set period. Incense also comes in different rarities: the rarer the Incense, the better the chance that spirits will stick around, plus the longer the effect lasts.
